Different Types of Foot Orthotics

One of the many treatment options offered by the chiropractor at Serenity Health & Wellness in Edmonton, AB is foot orthotics. When you are suffering from foot pain, it may result from many things, including irregular walking. We will evaluate your walking and determine what is causing your pain and how our orthotics can help.

What Is Irregular Walking?

The way that you walk, or your gait as it is referred to, can cause pain in your feet. Your feet take the majority of the pressure when you stand, walk or run. When your foot tips to the outside with each step, this is called pronation. When the foot turns in, that is supination. Both of these can affect how you walk and other joints in your body.

Foot Orthotics for Foot Pain

Soft

Soft orthotics are just that, soft. They provide cushioning where needed and can help with heel pain and other painful spots on the foot. If you have arthritis, they provide padding, and they conform to your foot to help give you arch support when you need it.

Semi-rigid

Semi-rigid orthotics are often used by athletes to provide additional support when they are applying stress to the feet. They have layers of soft material on a rigid base. They provide support and help the muscles and tendons to work more efficiently.

Rigid

Rigid custom orthotics are made from plastic or some other rigid material. This type of orthotic is designed to restrict the movement of two joints in the foot below the ankle. They do not change shape with use. They can help with plantar fasciitis resulting from flat feet and Achilles tendonitis.
